Back in March, the numbers showed that Windows 10 holdouts were finally starting to switch to Windows 11, and those numbers continued to grow—albeit slowly—in April. However, the latest figures from Statcounter show that Windows 11 lost global market share in May.

At the end of April, 43.72 percent of all Windows users were using Windows 11, but by the end of May that figure had dropped to 43.22 percent. Even with about six months left before support for Windows 10 is discontinued, the predecessor operating system’s market share actually grew by 0.25 points to 53.19 percent.

Among gamers, however, Windows 11 is still by far the most popular operating system. Gaming platform Steam’s latest hardware and software survey shows that 58.30 percent of all users play on Windows 11 (+0.46 points) while Windows 10 remains in second place with “only” 37 percent market share (-1.09 points).
