Samsung phones will soon support a new contactless payment feature that will allow them to sent payments to iPhones using Samsung Wallet.
The new peer-to-peer feature, called Tap to Transfer, will remove the need for people to use an app to make the payments in a similar way to how Apple’s Tap to Pay works between iPhones using Apple Pay.
Samsung’s announcement confirmed that the feature will be available in the United States and will work for anyone, not just businesses.
Samsung Electronics America today announced that starting later this month, Samsung Wallet’s new Tap to Transfer1 feature will make peer-to-peer (P2P) payments quick and convenient in the U.S. Whether you’re paying a friend back for buying group tickets or sending them your portion of the dinner bill, stressing over how to pay for shared expenses is a thing of the past. Now, funds arrive within minutes,2 meaning you no longer need to wait for funds to transfer between bank accounts — all it takes is a tap to transfer.
The new feature will work with Visa and Mastercard cards that have been added to the Samsung Wallet app.
Only debit cards are supported, however. Unfortunately, this system will also only work for Samsung owners who want to pay iPhone owners — there is no way to send the payments the other way currently.
