Apple has announced the new watchOS 26 and tvOS 26 updates for the Apple Watch and Apple TV, respectively. The new updates were shown off for the first time at the WWDC 2025 opening keynote today.
These updates debuted alongside similar updates for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro and are all available in early developer beta.
A public beta is expected to arrive next month, while a final public release isn’t expected until the fall, likely in September.
Alongside the move to an annual date-based naming convention, these new updates also bring with them a move to Liquid Glass. The Liquid Glass interface redesign seeks to modernize Apple’s devices while making them all look similar in terms of design language. But there are new features to go with the new look, too.
watchOS 26
The watchOS 26 software update brings a new Workout Buddy app to the Apple Watch, powered by Apple Intelligence.
The feature “incorporates a user’s workout data and their fitness history to generate personalized, motivational insights during their session, based on data like heart rate, pace, distance, Activity rings, personal fitness milestones, and more.” Apple says that it’s the first of its kind, adding that the app will mark key moments during workouts and give “a personalized pep talk” during activities.
Other additions include an updated look for the Workout app as well as an upgrade for Smart Stack. The feature is gaining improved prediction algorithms to make better sense of sensor data and contextual data, Apple says. The Messages app will also gain Live Translation support on the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
tvOS 26
Apple TV fans will notice the same Liquid Glass refresh is coming to the big screen, while a redesigned Apple TV app looks better than ever.
The new update also adds support for using an iPhone as a microphone for singing along to Apple Music.
Apple also announced an improved FaceTime experience with Contact Posters, expanded Live Captions, and more, all shipping as part of the tvOS 26 update.
