Keysight Technologies has entered a contract with Nato’s Naval Forces Sensor and Weapons Accuracy Check Sites (FORACS) to enhance its radar and electronic support measures (ESM) system testing capabilities.

As part of the agreement, Keysight will provide its Radar Target Generator and Electronic Warfare (EW) testing solutions, which will be implemented at Nato Navy bases.

This initiative is aimed at improving the calibration and maintenance of Nato radar systems and evaluating the effectiveness of ESM.

The precision and dependability of radar and ESM systems are for military and naval forces to maintain situational awareness, ensure accurate targeting, and detect threats promptly.

With the ever-increasing complexity of electronic warfare threats, defence organisations need advanced test environments that can accurately mimic real-world scenarios, claims the company.

These environments are expected to handle dynamic multi-emitter signals, sophisticated threat modelling, and incorporate closed-loop testing methods.

Keysight’s Radar Target Generator and EW solutions are engineered to fulfil these requirements, enabling Nato FORACS to evaluate and enhance the operational readiness of radar and ESM systems throughout its member countries.

Nato FORACS Office in Nato Headquarters in Brussels said: “The Nato FORACS Office is pleased to note the placement of this contract which will supply important equipment to restore Nato FORACS’ core radar and ESM testing capabilities in order to meet its users’ evolving demands.”

The contract includes the integration and supply of Radar Target Generators and EW threat simulators.

This is expected to improve accuracy verification and comprehensive system performance assessments in complex electromagnetic situations.

Radar Target Generator uses commercial-off-the-shelf components from Keysight, with customised firmware and a graphical user interface developed in Europe specifically to meet Nato’s needs.

Keysight EMEA VP and GM Thierry Locquette said: “Nato’s ability to verify and enhance the accuracy of its radar and ESM systems is critical to mission success in today’s contested electromagnetic spectrum environment.

“Keysight is proud to provide the cutting-edge solutions necessary to enable Nato FORACS to maintain the highest levels of sensor performance, ensuring operational superiority across allied forces. Our Radar Target Generator solution was developed in Europe, working closely with our local R&D and solution centres as well as with European technology partners to provide a highly realistic, flexible, and future-ready test capability for Nato’s evolving defence needs.”
