After years of dashed hopes and dreams, Meta has finally announced an official Instagram app — and you can download it right now.
The app is free to download, as you’d expect, with Meta announcing the news via a press release.

“People have asked for this for a while, and we’ve taken the time to design an experience that optimizes your favorite parts of Instagram for a bigger screen,” that announcement says.
The new iPad Instagram app looks and works the way that you might expect, albeit with an interface that doesn’t appear to make the best use of the larger display afforded by an iPad, at least at first.
While the main Instagram feed doesn’t look too different from the iPhone app, opening comments does see the interface expand to cover more of the display real estate. “When designing Instagram for iPad, we wanted to take advantage of the bigger screen to give people more features with fewer taps, while keeping it simple,” the announcement post explains. “It’s the Instagram you love, now with more space to play.”

You can download the Instagram app on your iPad via the App Store right now. You’ll need iPadOS 15.1 or later to get it, and we’re told that an Android tablet version of the app is also coming soon.
