Apple is planning a major redesign of its software that will change how iPhones, iPads, and other Apple devices look and feel.
This new design, called Liquid Glass, will be officially introduced at Apple’s WWDC event, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
It is inspired by the Apple Vision Pro headset and its advanced visual effects, and it will be the biggest visual update to Apple’s software in over 10 years.
The key feature of this redesign is the use of translucent (partly see-through) menus, icons, and windows.
This makes the interface feel more modern and layered, almost like looking through glass, hence the name “Liquid Glass.”
This new look builds on what Apple developed for visionOS, which is the software for the Vision Pro headset that blends digital elements with the real world.
This shift marks the first major visual update since designer Jony Ive removed the old, realistic-looking icons in iOS 7 and introduced a flatter, cleaner style.
At the time, this was a bold change, but it became the norm as more people grew up using smartphones. Apple seems ready to make another big leap in how its devices look and feel.
The redesign isn’t just for style, it’s also laying the groundwork for future Apple hardware.
For example, a special iPhone, expected in 2027 to celebrate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, could feature a bold new design with curved glass all around, no screen cutouts, and minimal borders.
This phone is reportedly codenamed “Glasswing”, named after a butterfly with see-through wings.
Apple is also rumored to be working on a foldable iPhone, possibly coming in 2026, and even smart glasses and a robotic “smart lamp” for the home.
These futuristic devices could launch in 2026 or 2027, as part of Apple’s bigger push into smart homes and wearable technology.
All of these upcoming products are likely to use or be influenced by the new Liquid Glass interface.
