Developers can now download iOS 18.5 RC, or Release Candidate, for iPhone, while iPadOS 18.5 RC is also available for iPad.
Apple has today released those updates for those who are registered on the Apple Developer Program portal.
These iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 updates aren’t big ones and don’t bring a lot of new features, but there are still some tweaks to take note of. Users now have more options to roll back previous Mail app design changes, including the ability to remove contact photos. Additionally, AppleCare information is easier to find in the Settings app. The update also likely includes bug fixes and performance improvements that always make installing the later software well worth doing.
To download them as an OTA update, head over to Settings > General > Software Update section of the device and grab the OTA update from there. Alternatively, you can download it as an IPSW file by heading over to developer.apple.com and grabbing the IPSW file tailored for your specific device, and then installing it using iTunes on Windows or Finder on Mac.
These iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 releases aren’t the only ones that Apple has been working on. Apple is also getting the final release of visionOS 2.5, tvOS 18.5, watchOS 11.5, and macOS 15.5 ready.
One thing we do know is that these are likely to be among the final updates before Apple announces iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and other software updates at the June WWDC event. Those updates won’t be ready until the fall, but we do expect that initial betas will be released to developers during that WWDC event.
