I am not yet quite 100 years old. Perhaps some of you are, or at least you might feel that way, or look that way in the morning, before your coffee.
The Grand Theatre, on the other hand, does not feel nor look like your typical 100 year old building. Every feature of this extraordinary building gleams from the bright lights of the marquee, to the plush cushioned seats situated below a magnificent chandelier. New fresh paint, a beautiful polished wood apron, luxurious carpeting (and more) have kept the Grand Theatre looking like the gem that it is!
And the credit goes to hardworking people who have donated their time and financial backing to the upkeep of this historic icon. Thank you, we appreciate you!
The Grand Theatre is turning 100 years old this year and we want you to help celebrate that achievement with us. Save these dates: August 22, 23, and 24.
On those dates there will be a delightful program brought to you by those rascals who go by the name “3 D’s & B.” The theme of the show will be “100 Years of Love.” And, in keeping with the theme, there will be featured solos, duets, choir, piano, brass instruments, and dance highlighting each decade in the life of the Grand Theatre. The Friday and Saturday performance will begin at 7:30, while the performance on the 24th will start at 2 pm. There will be Silent Auction on Friday night and Sunday afternoon featuring Grand Theatre Keepsakes. And Saturday Night a VIP Cabaret will be held prior to the main attraction. Box Office Seats will be available.
I plan on contributing to the Silent Auction. You see, I have a hobby that is quite unusual. I build knives. I take steel and forge it and shape it and grind it and heat it and quench it and temper it and polish it and handle it. It’s a simple process, consisting of hundreds of small steps, each of which has the potential to ruin your efforts. But lest you think that this is some sort of shameless plug, in an effort to advertise and sell my hand-built knives, let me explain.
My plan is to find some unused metal in the Grand Theatre and turn it into a one-of-a-kind knife, something to commemorate 100 years! I would donate it, and a custom sheath, to the silent auction, and hopefully, some theater patron will go home with it!
Actually, knives have a lot in common with people that I know:
1. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.
2. Some are beautiful; others are built more for utility.
3. Some are hard to get a handle on.
4. Some can be dull.
5. Others have a sharp edge to them
6. If you take care of them, they will treat you well.
7. Neither perform well when they lose their temper.
I seem to have wandered away from the real intention of this article, which is to ask you to please do the following: Save the dates of August 22nd, 23rd, and 24th and help us celebrate the 100 year birthday of our much loved Grand Theatre! I hope you got my point!
