CenCore has been contracted to develop mobile sensitive compartmented information facilities (SCIFs) for the US Marine Corps’ (USMC) Project 7/11 forward-operating initiative.
The $19m contract was awarded by the US Department of Defense (DoD) and the USMC Warfighting Lab. The initiative aims to quickly deploy containerised secure units (CSUs) or mobile SCIFs to the battlefield.
The mobile SCIFs, described as the first of their kind at the Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI level), are part of a broader push to enhance secure edge computing, mission command, and communications in austere environments.
CenCore said that its CSUs are manufactured in Aurora, Colorado, and are exclusively patented.
According to the company, they are the only fully American-made units of their classification currently available.
Project 7/11 marks a shift in the USMC’s modernisation approach, focusing on infrastructure that is both rapidly deployable and low in operational signature.
This infrastructure supports the Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control (CJADC2) system, which integrates command and control across multiple operational domains.
CenCore CEO Adam Fife said: “This milestone marks a significant achievement for CenCore as a recognised programme of record for the US DoD and the USMC. CenCore delivers unparalleled speed, survivability, and integration at the TS/SCI level, all while being entirely made in the US.
“We are honoured to bring more jobs to America while supporting the DoD and USMC with deployable infrastructure that can operate anywhere in the world — and deliver a variety of innovative capabilities to the warfighter within hours, not months.”
In April 2025, CenCore was selected for the DoD’s Accelerate the Procurement and Fielding of Innovative Technologies (APFIT) programme.
This selection aims to expedite the deployment of CenCore’s Warfighter Secure Series, addressing critical capability gaps for warfighters in contested domains.
Established in fiscal year 2022, the APFIT programme allocates procurement funding to bridge the gap between successful research and development and operational deployment of promising technologies.
It seeks to prevent the “valley of death” scenario where technologies fail to transition into practical use due to funding constraints.
CenCore said its Warfighter Secure Series, comprising (CSUs) and modular secure shelters (MSS), is designed to provide the backbone for next-generation secure communications at the tactical edge. This series is pivotal to maintaining secure, resilient communications, which is a fundamental principle of modern warfare and border security, the company said.
