CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — Ahead of National Women’s Health Week, the Calhoun County Public Health Department (CCPHD) said they are encouraging women of all ages to prioritize their health by accessing preventive care, making informed lifestyle choices, and learning about the county’s wide range of women’s health programs.
National Women’s Health Week, which runs May 11-17, is an annual observance that highlights the importance of women’s well-being and their role in shaping the health of families and communities, officials said.
“We encourage all women to take this opportunity to focus on their health, schedule routine checkups, and learn more about ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle,” Hailey Black, CCPHD family public health director, said. “Women’s Health Week is about empowering women with knowledge, resources, and support to make informed decisions about their well-being.”
CCPHD offers the following services that are geared towards supporting women’s health:
- The Choices Clinic: Offering low-cost or free birth control options, annual wellness exams, STI testing and treatment, and reproductive health counseling to help people make informed decisions.
- Nurse-Family Partnership: A free, personal nurse and home visiting support for first time moms to help ensure a healthy pregnancy and beyond.
- WIC: Provides nutrition education, lactation support, and healthy food assistance for pregnant people, new mothers, infants, and children up to 5 years old.
“Women’s Health Week emphasizes key areas of health, including preventive screenings, heart health, reproductive health, mental wellness, and healthy lifestyle habits,” officials said. “The Calhoun County Public Health Department encourages women to consult their healthcare providers, stay up to date with vaccinations, and seek support when needed.”
