Kellogg’s cornflakes, Bonne Maman jam, Kent Crisps, Brewdog beer… these are the items on the supermarket shelves in front of me. I’m in a branch of Azbuka Vkusa (or ‘Alphabet or Taste’) in Moscow, where the aisles look remarkably like those in a Tesco, Sainsbury’s or Waitrose. Russia is the most sanctioned economy in the world, but here we are, more than three years into its supposed isolation, and the shelves are still stocked with Western goods. So how come? Many of the products on sale here are what are called ‘parallel imports’. That means they’ve entered Russia via third countries, without the…
“I’m Mike Flanagan. I am the screenwriter, the director, the editor, and one of the producers for “The Life of Chuck.” So we’re seeing Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays Marty Anderson. He’s walking right now to his ex-wife’s house in the middle of the end of the world. At this point in the story, and this scene is taken pretty much directly from Stephen King’s original novella, the world is almost over. No one understands why, and he’s on foot with his phone, no longer working with cars backed up, making traffic impossible, and he’s trying to find his way to…
Here’s a rule I tend to apply across the board in Westminster: If a politician is talking, politics is probably taking place.Add into that, if the topic of debate is especially grave or serious, be more prepared to apply the rule, not less. Which brings us to the grooming scandal. There is no doubt Tory leader Kemi Badenoch was politicising the issue when she ripped into the government in the Commons on Monday. In fact, she admitted as much. Asked about it during her news conference, she said: “When I’m in the Commons, I will do politics. If every time we are…

Tani Oluwaseyi scored an amazing goal in the 45’+2′ to extend Canada’s lead to 2-0 over Honduras.
[NEW YORK] A blistering rally in a tiny, money-losing traditional Chinese medicine company’s stock has vaulted its founder’s net worth to among the world’s largest fortunes. The firm, Hong Kong-based Regencell Bioscience Holding, was for all intents and purposes trading as a microcap stock on the Nasdaq just eight weeks ago. But its shares have since exploded, gaining more than 82,000 per cent since its Feb 13 low. The move has boosted the value of chief executive officer Yat-Gai Au’s 86 per cent stake to US$33.3 billion, according to the Bloomberg billionaires Index, making Au’s paper wealth greater than rich-list stalwarts…
WASHINGTON — Sen. Alex Padilla on Tuesday encouraged Americans to peacefully protest against President Donald Trump’s administration and said it’s “it’s time to wake up” in his first extended remarks in the Senate since he was forcibly removed from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference in Los Angeles last week as he tried to speak up about immigration raids. In emotional remarks on Tuesday, Padilla, a California Democrat, recounted the altercation, in which security forced him out of the room and onto the ground after he tried to ask Noem a question. Padilla said that even though he was…
[SINGAPORE] Wilmar International is buying the remaining stake it does not already own in a Nigeria-incorporated palm oil business from its joint-venture (JV) partner, British manufacturer PZ Cussons, for US$70 million. Once its acquisition of the 50 per cent equity stake in PZ Wilmar held by the London Stock Exchange-listed company is complete, Wilmar will hold 100 per cent equity in the palm oil business, the group said on Wednesday (Jun 18). This purchase comes as Wilmar intends to invest in the Nigerian palm oil sector, which offers “significant opportunity” for growth in the food and nutrition business, given the…
