Over the last six years, I’ve had the privilege of working with governments, national central banks, and communities of interest around the world, helping them build and refine their cyber threat intelligence (CTI) communities. From the most cyber mature entities to those in emerging economies with lesser resources, there are clear pattens. And while maturity levels may vary a great deal, the core challenges and the solutions are remarkably similar. Coming from a military intelligence background, I have always viewed intelligence sharing as a fundamental principle. While “need to know” was a core dictate, “need to share” was equally…
MANILA :Philippine budget airline Cebu Pacific said on Wednesday it would lease two Airbus A320 jets to Saudi budget carrier flyadeal to generate revenue from its excess capacity during the Southeast Asian country’s low season. In the “wet lease” agreement, Cebu Pacific will rent the narrow-body aircraft, along with its pilots, crew and maintenance, to flyadeal during the Philippines’ lean months in July and August, a busy period for the Saudi carrier. “We have this natural symbiosis where my peak is not his and vice versa,” flyadeal CEO Steven Greenway said at a press conference.Cebu Pacific CEO Michael Szucs said…
ECONOMISTS expect deflationary pressure to get worse in China, even as they improve forecasts for growth and exports this year after a truce in the trade war with the US.Consumer prices will likely increase by just 0.3 per cent in 2025 from a year ago, the lowest projection since Bloomberg began polling the question in 2023 and down from the 0.4 per cent predicted in April. China has seen economy-wide prices falling for two straight years, with consumer inflation below zero for the past three months. The outlook for prices is deteriorating despite a more upbeat view of the world’s second-biggest…
A new report from Orchid Security shows nearly half of enterprise applications violate basic credential-handling guidance, with 44 percent undermining centralized identity provider (IdP) policies and 40 percent falling short of widely accepted identity-control standards. Orchid analyzed authentication flows and authorization practices embedded deep within enterprise applications and finds clear-text credentials in nearly half. These are normally associated with alternative access flows, often for non-human accounts, but they also present an easy target for threat actors seeking entry or lateral movement. While IdPs are very common within enterprises and a valuable tool to centralize secure authentication practices, the research finds…
[HONG KONG] Asian equities rose on Wednesday following a Wall Street rally as traders cheered forecast-beating US consumer confidence data and a drop in bond yields, with eyes now on a key sale of Japanese debt.New York investors returned to their desks after a long weekend break in a good mood after Donald Trump delayed until July the 50 per cent tariffs he announced out of the blue on Friday, sparking a market rout. The US president’s announcement Sunday soothed worries about a fresh flare-up in his trade war that has rattled global sentiment, fanned uncertainty and led some to question…
A large number of startups have proposed designs that should be far less prone to failure. Many of these are SMRs, or small modular reactors, which promise economies of scale by building the reactor at a central facility and then shipping it to the site of installation. But, as of yet, only a single reactor of this type has been approved in the US, and the only planned installation of that design was canceled as the projected cost of its electricity became uncompetitive. That environment makes investing in nuclear power extremely risky on its own. However, we’re also at a…

CHINA is on the cusp of its biggest move yet to open up its vast commodities markets, after the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) unveiled an internationalisation plan to streamline access for overseas investors. The country’s biggest raw materials bourse is soliciting views on a proposal to let participants post foreign exchange as collateral for yuan-denominated trades, according to a statement on Tuesday (May 27). Restrictions on foreigners and their capital are an oft-cited reason for China’s failure to punch its weight in international markets. SHANGHAI: Chinese e-commerce giant PDD Holdings saw net profit almost halve in the first three months of the year as the Temu owner prepared for a blistering trade war between Beijing and Washington. The Shanghai-based company said net profit came in at 14.7 billion yuan (US$2 billion) in the three months ending Mar 31, down 47 per cent year on year. The drop came as the economic superpowers are locked in another bruising trade standoff that saw US President Donald Trump last month scrap a customs exemption for goods valued under US$800. The exemption was long a vital part of…
