Apple has announced new accessibility features that will be released to the public later this year. The features will be added to the fall software updates for the iPhone, Mac, and more.
Apple has long made accessibility a focus for its products, and the preannouncement of these new features continues that ahead of WWDC’s expected unveiling of iOS 19, macOS 16, and other software updates.
“At Apple, accessibility is part of our DNA,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, via the announcement press release. “Making technology for everyone is a priority for all of us, and we’re proud of the innovations we’re sharing this year. That includes tools to help people access crucial information, explore the world around them, and do what they love.”
One addition is new Accessibility Nutrition Labels that will be added to the App Store and app product pages. The new labels will highlight which accessibility features are available, including VoiceOver, Voice Control, Larger Text, Sufficient Contrast, Reduced Motion, captions, and more.
Apple also announced an all-new Magnifier for Mac, upgrading the product that was previously launched on the iPhone and iPad almost a decade ago. Now, its debut on the Mac “connects to a user’s camera so they can zoom in on their surroundings, such as a screen or whiteboard. Magnifier works with Continuity Camera on iPhone as well as attached USB cameras, and supports reading documents using Desk View.”
Other upgrades include a new Braille Access feature that turns iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro into a full-featured braille note taker that’s integrated with the entire Apple ecosystem. Apple also announced Live Captions on the Apple Watch and Accessibility Reader, a system-wide reading mode designed to make it easier for people to read on-screen text on the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.
There are more additions, too, and you can check out the Apple Newsroom announcement to see the full rundown of everything that users can look forward to later this year.
