Dr. Lori Langdon is the new medical director of the Campbell University Health Center.

Langdon is clinical chair of Pediatrics at the Campbell University medical school and was recently voted Best Pediatrician in Harnett County for the fourth consecutive year.

In her new book, “Doctors Work in Air Conditioning: An Intimate look at Southern Culture and the Challenges of Rural Medicine,” Langdon pulls from almost 30 years’ experience as a rural pediatrician, telling stories of her childhood through finding a place in academia.

She succeeds Dr. Nicholas Pennings at the Health Center.

“I have big shoes to fill following Dr. Pennings, who is incredible,” Langdon says.

The primary focus of the Health Center, Langdon says, is taking care of Campbell students. The center also serves university faculty and staff, as well as the community, which represents its largest patient population.

Board-certified medical providers work specialties, including Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulation Medicine, Pain Management, Sports Medicine, and Weight Management and Wellness Programs.

“We have an excellent staff at the Health Center, including wonderful admin, nurses and providers. These are very high-quality, kind, compassionate, well trained people. It’s a wonderful place.”

As a pediatrician, Langdon will oversee care for most of the students who come into the Health Center.

“Pediatricians are trained in pediatric and adolescent medicine, and our college students are adolescents,” she said. “I’m perfectly comfortable and happy to see all the college students and to supervise the (physician assistants or nurse practitioners) who care for the college students.”

Langdon hopes to find a way to expand the center, which is in an older medium building with limited space.

“We need more space to meet the needs of our students, employees and community patients,” she says. “We have great dreams.”
