Kingston Technology has announced a refreshed range of its XS Series External SSDs, featuring updated designs and targeted performance specifications aimed at both professional and everyday users.

The refreshed XS Series includes the XS2000, XS1000, and XS1000R external SSD models, now highlighted by new packaging and branding elements, including Kingston’s redhead mascot, Rex. The company stated this visual update demonstrates its continued focus on performance, reliability, and customer service, underlining almost four decades of operation in the technology sector.

The XS2000 external SSD serves as Kingston’s professional-tier product within the lineup. The manufacturer lists sequential read and write speeds of up to 2,000MB/s for this device, along with storage options up to 4TB. Designed for content creators and media professionals, the XS2000 supports direct Apple ProRes video recording, facilitating its integration with mobile devices and various production workflows. Kingston describes this device as targeting users who require “studio-grade performance in the palm of their hand.”

For mainstream and everyday storage requirements, Kingston offers the XS1000 and XS1000R models. These devices are positioned as lightweight and portable solutions, providing read speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and available in capacities up to 2TB. According to Kingston, these products are intended for a broad spectrum of users, including students, business travellers, and remote workers, and aim to balance performance, portability, and value for day-to-day needs such as file storage, transfer, and backup.

Kevin Wu, Sales/Marketing and Business Development Vice President of Kingston’s APAC region, commented on the announcement. He said:

“At Kingston, our commitment goes beyond just building products, it’s about building trust. The refreshed XS Series, featuring Rex and the ‘Built on Commitment’ tagline, reflects our promise to deliver reliable, innovative, and adaptable technology that evolves with our customers’ needs.”

The company emphasises that these updates strengthen Kingston’s position in the memory and storage market. The updated design incorporates the company’s branding and the “Built on Commitment” tagline, which Kingston says represents its ongoing promise to deliver dependable technology solutions to a global customer base.

With products that span from high-performance storage for creative professionals to accessible everyday devices for general consumers, Kingston states that the XS Series has been “tailored to meet the needs of both professionals and everyday users.”

Kingston’s broader product strategy extends beyond the XS Series. The company supplies memory and storage solutions for a variety of sectors, including cloud computing, IoT devices, laptops, desktop PCs, and wearable technology. Kingston receives business from PC manufacturers and global cloud providers, and the company highlights its emphasis on quality assurance, customer engagement, and ongoing product development.

The announcement follows Kingston’s established approach of updating its product lines to maintain compatibility with emerging workflows, interfaces, and user demands. The inclusion of direct ProRes support on the XS2000, for example, targets professional content creation, while the portable everyday devices in the XS series are designed for widespread use cases, reflecting changing patterns in hybrid and remote work.

Kingston’s product portfolio includes additional ranges beyond external SSDs and is distinguished by nearly 40 years in the global technology market. The company states that this longevity is underpinned by its focus on customer service and service partnerships.

The refreshed Kingston XS Series external SSDs are now available for purchase. The company’s local focus in Australia aligns with its wider presence in memory and storage solutions globally.
