Arlo Technologies has announced the addition of Event Captions and Video Search features for subscribers of its Arlo Secure 6 home security service.
The latest updates expand the functionality of Arlo Secure by incorporating artificial intelligence-driven enhancements, allowing users to more efficiently access and interpret their security camera footage. The Event Captions feature is already available, with Video Search expected to be introduced soon.
Event Captions
The Event Captions tool utilises AI to provide concise descriptions of motion-triggered events detected by Arlo cameras. This means users can quickly identify incidents, such as a person approaching their entrance or the drop-off of a parcel, without the need to watch the entire video recording. The description is generated automatically, offering a summary of each event to save users’ time and effort in reviewing footage.
Explaining the focus of this feature, the company stated, “Arlo’s new event caption feature generates concise and accurate descriptions of motion detected events. Whether it’s a person walking up the driveway or a package being delivered, users can gain a quick understanding of the camera’s footage without needing to view the video itself.”
Video Search capabilities
The forthcoming Video Search functionality will allow users to find specific events or footage through keyword, text description, or by specifying a time range. This removes the need to manually scroll through extensive video libraries to locate relevant moments. Importantly, the Video Search system supports the use of natural language, enabling users to type a description of the incident they want to review, such as “someone delivered a package this morning,” and have the relevant clip surface instantly.
This new feature is highlighted in the company’s statement: “This new functionality enables users to quickly locate their desired event by searching with keywords, descriptions, or specific time ranges, eliminating the need to manually sift through your video library and ensuring the most relevant moments can be identified and shared. Users can also search using natural language – simply describe the event you’re interested in, and Arlo will find the corresponding recording.”

Subscription details
Event Captions are available now for both new and existing users through the Arlo Secure app, provided the subscription was purchased since September 2024. The Video Search function is scheduled to become available in the coming months. Consumers who purchase select Arlo products are eligible for a 30-day trial of Arlo Secure Plus, which includes access to both Event Captions and Video Search. After the trial period, continued use of these premium features requires a paid subscription to the Secure Plus tier, which also includes extended cloud storage, advanced detection options, and activity zones.
