Getac has introduced two new field devices, the F120 tablet and V120 laptop, aimed at professionals who require rugged, AI-powered computing in demanding environments.

The F120 is described as the world’s first fully rugged Copilot+ PC in a tablet form factor, while the V120 is an AI-ready, fully rugged laptop featuring enhanced durability and computing performance. Both devices are positioned as successors to the company’s F110 and V110 models and have been shaped by feedback from users in sectors such as defence, utilities, public safety, and automotive.

    AI edge capabilities

The F120 qualifies as a Copilot+ PC under Microsoft criteria, which requires a neural processor unit (NPU) capable of 40+ trillion operations per second (TOPS), at least 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD storage, and support for biometric authentication. It incorporates the Intel Core Ultra 200V Series Processor with an Intel AI Boost NPU delivering up to 48 TOPS. The company claims this allows field users to accelerate diagnostics, image processing, and real-time analytics for faster decision-making in remote and challenging scenarios.

The F120 is upgradeable to 32GB LPDDR5X memory and up to 2TB PCIe NVMe SSD storage. Security features include Windows Hello facial recognition. The device is intended for users who require advanced AI computing at the edge, such as defence operations, utilities and field teams operating in changing and often harsh environments.

    Convertible design for varied usage

The V120 laptop builds on the experience of years of field deployment with the V110, introducing a convertible hinge design that allows the device to be used in multiple modes. It is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 200H Series processor, Intel Arc GPUs, and Intel Turbo Boost technology to facilitate AI acceleration and multitasking capabilities. The standard configuration has 8GB DDR5 RAM and a 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, upgradable to 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD for users requiring additional performance.

    Larger displays and lighter form

Both F120 and V120 feature a new 12.2-inch LumiBond display, larger than the 11.6-inch screens of previous models, with a narrow-bezel design to reduce weight and thickness. The V120 offers 1,000 nits of brightness for indoor and vehicle-based tasks, while the F120’s screen boosts to 1,200 nits for improved visibility outdoors, including use in direct sunlight.

    Connectivity and resilience

To service mobile field professionals, both devices provide Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports are offered as standard, with the V120 also providing an option for a third port. Cellular connectivity is supported with 4G LTE, 5G Sub-6, Dual SIM (Nano-SIM 4FF and e-SIM), and an optional dedicated GPS module.

Battery life is extended through Getac’s LifeSupport hot-swappable technology, and larger capacity batteries are available where longer operational periods are needed. Security is addressed via built-in TPM 2.0, with options including Intel vPro Technology, smart card reader, and Absolute Persistence. Both devices are MIL-STD-810H and IP66 certified, making them suitable for use in extreme conditions from -29°C to 63°C, with varying drop resistance; the F120 up to 1.8m and the V120 up to 1.2m, the latter with reinforced corners for shock absorption. Additional certifications for salt fog and ANSI/UL compliance are available.

    Applications across sectors

According to Getac, the F120 and V120 are designed for versatile deployment. Defence professionals can use the F120 for mobile command and control; automotive engineers can leverage its AI processing for diagnostics; and public safety workers, including police and emergency responders, can use the V120 with Getac Voice application for real-time voice transcription and digital signing of reports on the touchscreen.

James Hwang, president, Getac Technology Corporation, said, “Modern field professionals need devices they can rely on to solve complex challenges and facilitate high levels of productivity in a wide variety of environments and circumstances. At Getac, we work closely with our customers to not only understand the challenges they are facing today, but also how these challenges are evolving over time, to ensure our rugged solutions continue to meet their changing needs.

“The new F120 and V120 build on a proven track record of performance and raise the bar once again, combining powerful AI capabilities, larger screens and weather-resistant functionality in a slimmer, lighter form factor, for optimal field efficiency.”

The devices are scheduled to be available in October.
